Minnesota Democratic Senator Tina Smith has been admitted to a hospital after falling ill today and will not be able to help Democrats try to block tonightβs recession package vote.
As Politico reported , Smithβs office released a statement saying the senator is expected to stay overnight for observation, assuming it does not take a turn for the worse.
She also hopes to be back in the near future.
No details were given regarding Smithβs illness.
Here is the statement:

Smith being out of work means Republicans will have a bit more margin of error and will not have to rely on Vice-Presiden JD Vance to break a tie vote like he did last night.
Politico notes that the Vance was in Pennsylvania earlier today and is supposed to return to DC this evening.
Smith is retiring after her term ends next year.
